This position is intended for a bilingual (French-English) Registered Nurse who is able to provide comprehensive services and primary care in a francophone community health centre within a team-based care model.

This position reports to the Executive Director of RésoSanté and the Medical Director of the Francophone Community Health Centre (CSCF). Our healthcare team includes physicians, several registered and licensed practical nurses, social workers, and a well-trained and friendly support staff. They offer an interdisciplinary approach to healthcare and encourage patients to take responsibility for and actively participate in their own health. Ongoing training for medical staff is an important aspect of the clinic’s commitment to the community.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely, primary, direct nursing care in French to patients.
  • Assess patients and gather information from various sources using observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment techniques.
  • Formulate a nursing diagnosis regarding the patient’s condition and determine whether it can be improved or resolved through appropriate nursing interventions or through interventions and collaboration with other clinical staff members.
  • Carry out orders from physicians or nurse practitioners by initiating standing unit orders, administering medications, performing treatments, and monitoring and documenting effects.
  • Establish a therapeutic relationship with the patient to ensure their choice and autonomy in decision-making and care planning, including their right to dignity and privacy.
  • Develop a comprehensive care plan shared with the patient, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the patient and/or their family, other healthcare providers, and/or referral clinics.
  • Discuss clinical findings with the patient/family, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, to develop action plans and set goals focused on clinical needs, self-management, self-care, and quality of life improvement.
  • Provide health counselling to patients, including education, self-management, self-monitoring, and wellness/health promotion and prevention; assess individual learning needs, provide and explain techniques and equipment, and evaluate the overall effectiveness of selected teaching methods and learning outcomes.
  • Create and maintain an adequate medical record of encounters.
  • Maintain growth in professional practice, knowledge, and expertise to reflect current practice standards.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings.
  • Participate in general health centre activities, such as continuing education, committees, special events, and shared staff responsibilities.
  • Always protect the reputation and confidentiality of the health centre and its patients.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Registered Nurse training program and registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a Registered Nurse.

  • Ability to speak French and English is required.

  • Awareness of and sensitivity to patients from diverse ethnic backgrounds and/or with diverse cultural beliefs and practices.
  • Experience working with youth, 2ELGBTQ+ individuals, mental health, substance use, vulnerable families, refugees, and frail seniors is an asset.
  • Trauma-informed practice and culturally safe care for Indigenous Peoples.
  • A desire to serve clients with complex situations.
  • Interest in chronic disease management service delivery models.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to the social determinants of health as a foundation for care delivery.
